証明書(Certificate)は、公開キーをある個人/エンティティ(entity)を結びつけます。これは通常、電子署名(digital signature)を使って行われます。公開キーと個別の名前を関係する証明書は、既に信頼済み(trust)キー・ペアで署名(sign)されます。その後、証明書中の公開キーが実際に、その証明書の個別の名前に属することを保障出来ます。
