The ARM (previously, the Advanced RISC Machine, and prior to that Acorn RISC Machine) architecture is a 16/32-bit RISC processor architecture. ARM processors are widely used in mobile devices because of its low power consumption. The ARM architecture provides support for the 32-bit ARM and 16-bit Thumb Instruction Set Architectures along with architecture extensions to provide support for Java acceleration (Jazelle™), security (TrustZone™), Intelligent Energy Manager (IEM), SIMD, and NEONTM technologies.

The ARM processor range provides solutions for:

• Open platforms running complex operating systems for wireless, consumer and imaging applications.
• Embedded real-time systems for mass storage, automotive, industrial and networking applications.
• Secure applications including smart cards and SIMs.

Symbian devices are only ARM based.
