Carbide.c++ Academic

From Forum Nokia Wiki

Carbide.c++ Academic Versions

There's no information (2007-06-05) Nokia'website, but Nokia has an academic discount available on the Carbide.c++ Developer and Professional edition products.

For more information, email sales.carbide@nokia.com.

Academic discounts are available for both individual (student/faculty) and institutional purchases with no minimum quantity. These licenses are of the "node locked" variety (as opposed to the double cost floating licenses) and are thus tied to a particular MAC address or hard drive serial (your choice). See the CodeWarrior activation FAQ for more.

The products are listed as have a "restricted academic license", but no where is that term defined. The EULA is the same and has no mention of this. I believe Nokia is ironing this out and will be releasing the license terms soon. FIXME!

Unsurprisingly these products come with no support. Sadly, this also means you do not qualify for upgrades (for example when Carbide 1.3 comes out, you'll have to buy it again). At this time, there is no way to purchase maintenance with an academic license. Hopefully this will change in the future.

If you wish to purchase Carbide with an Academic discount:

  1. Register for a ForumPro eStore account
  2. Email sales.carbide@nokia.com and/or Michael Heinz (hisfirstname.hislastname@nokia.com) from your .edu email account requesting the Academic products be made available to your Forum Nokia Pro eStore account (be sure to include your username).
  3. Choose the Developer or Professional edition (see Carbide Comparison page for more.
  4. Purchase the license from the Nokia PRO e-store using your credit card.
  5. Activate the license by specifying your Hard Drive Serial or Primary Network MAC Address in Your Account section of Nokia PRO e-store

Update: The products currently available are:

SKU Description Cost
CB-NOK-PROED-SNA-12 Carbide.c++ Professional v1.2 € 100 ($130USD)
CB-NOK-DEVED-SNA-12 Carbide.c++ Developer v1.2 € 50 ($65USD)

This is not official Nokia communications, it is just what I did to get my hands on Carbide.c++ Developer edition so I could do proper on device debugging when using the Multimedia Framework whose implementation on the emulator is incomplete. --Notpeter 07:54, 5 June 2007 (UTC) Email me your experience is different/less smooth than mine.
