Carbide Licenses and Estore
From Forum Nokia Wiki
|
Carbide.c++ C++ Development Tools are provided to users as free and commercial products. Functionality is determined by the specific license that is loaded into your Carbide product. The license unlocks certain features of Carbide.c++. Carbide Express product is the free version of Carbide and operates without an embedded license. This page will help the user with obtaining licenses in the Estore and managing their licenses for individual users or at a site. Please consult the E-store User Manual for more information. |

CodeWarrior Status
Starting in Jan 2008, CodeWarrior will no longer be available for sale. Users will be able to upgrade their CodeWarrior products to Carbide.c++.
What does this mean? It means that we are encouraging our users to move off CodeWarrior and onto the Carbide.c++ products. We will do our best to provide technical support but there will be no further enhancements or patches available to CodeWarrior starting in 2008.
If you have not tried Carbide yet, then we recommend that you download the product and try it out. We have including key bindings that mimic CodeWarrior and have white papers and tutorials that help introduce Carbide to new users. All of this information in available at the Forum Nokia Carbide page.
Estore Information
Users can access the e-store at the Forum Nokia PRO site. On this site users can purchase licenses, upgrade product, renew support, and seek technical support through the Service Request portal.
The Estore is designed for individual use or company use. The basic concept is that each company has an Account Owner who can centrally manage all the licenses and make purchases for the entire company. Individuals who create a new account are, by default, assigned the role of Account Owner. The Account Owner can add users inside their company by clicking Your Account → Manage My Basic Company Information → Add Contact.
More information on the e-store are found at:
- E-store User Manual
- The Forum Nokia PRO site
- E-store link

Managing Your Carbide/CodeWarrior Licenses
Users may manage their licenses on-line in the [https:/pro.forum.nokia.com Forum Nokia PRO] site. The typical procedure for obtaining a license is as follows:
- Go to the E-store to purchase a license
- Assign the license to a user. See the E-store User Manual for details.
- Activate the license, which means that the user will provide an ID off their PC and the estore tool will issue a license.
The user can also upgrade product and renew support using this tool. Below is a screen shot of the License Manager (in the Forum Nokia PRO site).
Carbide Support And Support Renewals
New purchases of Carbide (and CodeWarrior) come with 1 year of support. Support entitles the user to access the support portal in the e-store as well as having access to upgrades. Minor upgrades (v1.1 → v1.2) are free and major upgrades (v1.1 → v2.0) are available at a discounted price.
Once support expires for a specific product, the user will need to purchase a support renewal before they can upgrade their product. There is a grace period of 6 months built into the tool. 6 months after expiration (support is expired by 12 months, and the 6 month grace period has expired for a total of 18 months) the user will not be able to renew support. Since support is not renewed, the user will need to make a new purchase and is unable to upgrade their specific product.
How To UPGRADE Your Product
To upgrade:
- Log into the Estore account at Forum Nokia PRO
- Click Your Account → Manage My Licenses (or My Company Licenses)
- Note that the License Manager tool displays whether the user is able to upgrade their product. If support is current, then the click on the box to upgrade. Otherwise you may need to renew support (you will need to pay for this) before you can upgrade.
- Check the items that you wish to purchase, then click “Shopping Cart” to complete your purchase.
Why Upgrade?
Carbide.c++ has made significant gains in performance and stability over CodeWarrior and older version of Carbide. The feedback from our Beta group has been very positive on newer versions of Carbide.
As of this posting, we have introduced the v1.2 product which has the following changes:
- Improved project and build system. Easier and fewer clicks to import and build projects. Saves time each week.
- Improved navigation and C++ class tools – making it easier to find the code you need to edit.
- Look at memory usage and battery life (for S60 devices)
- Device creation support (JTAG, ROM build tools)
