KIS001306 - Access Point dialog appears when connecting to local host

From Forum Nokia Wiki

ID KIS001306 Creation date February 12, 2009
Platform S60 3rd Edition
S60 3rd Edition, FP1
Devices Tested on Nokia N95,
Nokia N96
Category Symbian C++ Subcategory

Keywords (APIs, classes, methods, functions): HTTP, localhost

Overview

While making connections through an Access Point (for example, HTTP Connections), the Access Point selection dialog pops up even if the user wishes to connect to the localhost (that is, 127.0.0.1).

Description

Local host connection does not need an external connection. However, the devices try to establish external connections. This issue can be verified by connecting to the local host URL http://127.0.0.1/ from the browser, when the device tries to establish an external connection. The external connection can be either a GPRS or a WLAN connection based on the selected access point. If the external connection fails, the subsequent connection to localhost fails as well.

Solution

This issue appears on S60 3rd Edition and on some S60 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 1 devices, but it is fixed from S60 3rd Edition, FP2 onwards. Currently there is no solution for affected devices.
