Managing FN.com Blog resources

From Forum Nokia Wiki

If you are planning to serve some files (read: resources) along you blog entry from the Forum Nokia blog server (a file which does not exist on any Internet server, you need to upload those files to the Blog server as a resource. This includes all pictures, audio, video, presentations, and other file. This page contains explanations how to do this

Note, that you do not need to upload the resource files before starting the blog entry, although you need to upload the file(s) before publishing your entry. This is possible, as it is possible to save a draft of the blog entry and make changes to it later before publishing the final entry. (Instructions on how to write a blog entry}

Albums (folders)

The resource files in the system can be organized in albums (folders). This makes it easier to manage the files more effectively. Note, that there is a album named "General" automatically created for you.

You can create a new folder by selecting Resource Center->Resource Center->New Album.

In the page which is opened next you need to

  • name the new album (a short descriptive name is best)
  • select the parent folder for this new album ("No parent" means that the folder is placed in the root)
  • write an optional description of the folder contents
  • select if the folder is to be shown in the list of albums available (it is highly recommended to no uncheck this box)

The folder is created when you press the Add button in the bottom-right corner of the page.

Navigating through the resources

After creating a new album you will see the available album hierarchy (like a file system hierarchy). You can also get to this view by selecting Resource Center->Resource Center->Resources

In this view you can

  • edit the album information (which you entered during the creation of the album) by clicking the edit icon (Image:fnB_icon_edit-16.png) on the right
  • delete a album by clicking the delete button (Image:fnb_icon_delete-16.png) on the right
  • navigate deeper in the album hierarchy by clicking the respective folder icons
  • navigate higher up in the hierarchy by clicking the "up" folders

If there are more than one screenful of contents in one folder, you can step through the contents with the arrow buttons (and the pull-down number menu) at the bottom of the page

Uploading a Resource

Uploading a new resource file to the server is initiated by selecting menu option Resource Center->Resource Center->New Resource

This will open up a page where you have to

  • choose the file to be uploaded to the server (by utilizing the Add field links you can upload more than one file at one time
  • write an optional description for this file (these files)
  • select the album/folder where the file(s) will be placed

Note! the maximum size for a resource file is 100 MB.
