Propose an Article

From Forum Nokia Wiki

Please use this page to propose an article, or to check for what subjects other users want to see appear in this Wiki.

Some ideas are on Wiki wanted pages

Develop web user interfaces for existing S60 applications

As we already know, nokia mobile web server popularly known as MWS, is in it's beta release. Application developers can take advantage of the web server availability on the Symbian Phone.

In general Applications in Symbian comprises of Application Engine and Application UI. Idea is to eliminate the Application UI and come up with Web based user interfaces for the Application Engine.

Thereby the application engine can be accessed on the local host as well as the on the network i.e. We can access an application within the Phone, from other phones and from pc in the LAN.

Page of resources for developers getting started

I'd like to see a page where you could get some VERY basic info on developing for mobile, aimed at someone with no mobile dev experience - in my case web and flash development experience only. This would give an overview of what technologies are available for development, what's the difference between "devcert" and regular sis (I realize it's dev-certified, but what does that get me), is it possible to write data to the phone and read data from the phone, if I wanted to "side-load" content (meaning download to the PC then transfer to phone) how would I go about that, etc etc. What are good books/websites/resources to start with? This site looks very deep but there is no obvious entry point.

How to identify memory leaks in Carbide.c++

How to identify the memory leaks in my code? I'm writing an application using the Carbide.c++ IDE and my application works well but it panics on exit due to memory leaks. Can somebody write an article about how can memory leaks be identified and removed? Is there any feature in Carbide.c++ that I can use?

Example Proposal

Here is the description and comments concerning the example proposal. You can follow this format (Subheading = "possible title", description, user name, line break) to create your own proposal. When you post your name - why not use the simple ~~~~ format. Type this to automatically generate your user name , time and date. Creating a stub page for the article might also help.

Example Proposal - Here is link to the article that was created to address the proposed article. And give comments if needed, e.g. this is just a fake link (as it is just a template), but it is meant to demonstrate link to the article that was created. Also you may state that the page that was created is not complete, and you or others should further improve it.

Background

Many developers have asked if they could propose a valuable or needed article, and at the same time, some other users have said that it is hard to know of what to write about. We could use Wanted Pages under the Wiki special pages, but it does not address detailed article topics.

Nor does it provide any commenting or description possibility, just title, and since ranking is based on empty links, having a lot of empty links might decrease usability of the wiki.

Another way would be to create "stub" pages, but how would a person interested to contribute find it? And again loads of empty stub pages would decrease usability. We are planning on having a more sophisticated solution in the future to address this, but use this page in the meantime.
