Using ethereal for troubleshooting http

From Forum Nokia Wiki

Ethereal® is used by network professionals around the world for troubleshooting, analysis, software and protocol development, and education. It has all of the standard features you would expect in a protocol analyzer, and several features not seen in any other product. Its open source license allows talented experts in the networking community to add enhancements. It runs on all popular computing platforms, including Unix, Linux, and Windows.

Ethereal is very useful when you want details of client server communication. The data is helpful to troubleshoot any errors during communication.

If your application communicates with a web server and you want to see the actual data sent between your emulator and the web server, Ethereal is the best free utility. Start the emulator, before any http transaction starts on the emulator start Ethereal and start the tcp/ip monitoring. Start the http transaction on the emulator. The transaction can be seen on real time on Ethereal. Once you get some response or after some time, from the transaction list in Ethereal look out for the http URL related to your web server. Left click that row and choose follow transaction. You will be shown the entire set of calls that went on between the emulator and the web server. This information can be used to troubleshoot any transaction errors.
