Congratulations to Levin Wei June’s Contributor of the Month
This month Levin Wei has been selected by the Wiki Administrators for his excellent translations of Qt articles to Chinese as the Contributor of the Month.
Most months a Forum Nokia member that contributes high quality new articles or major edits is named the Contributor of the Month and is awarded a Nokia Multimedia device for his/her contribution to the developer’s community.
You too can be a Contributor of the Month by simply contributing useful articles, example codes, tutorials, or by significantly shaping up the already existing ones. If you have significant edits to the existing pages then please bring these to my attention. Articles are judged first and foremost by the quality, value and appearance of the article and code so even one very good article can win.
Are you reading My Daily App?
Are you reading My Daily App? This site sponsored by Forum Nokia has been reviewing applications available from Ovi Store and blogging about them at MyDailyApp.com. As a person selling applications, it is good that this independent group is reviewing and bringing to notice these applications. These applications are something you may never have heard about but are cool to have. .
I invite you to take a look; the reviews are cool and unbiased. As a developer you should know they are not limited to big developer houses but highlight the small independent distributor. If the Widget or app is cool and in the Ovi store, they will promote it.
This video is a great introduction to the Nokia Qt SDK for Symbian developers. To illustrate how easy it is to get started creating mobile Qt applications using the Nokia Qt SDK, chief engineer Lucian Tomuta shares his expertise in this video guide. Lucian provides an insight into creating apps that run on Symbian devices. He demonstrates how the Nokia Qt SDK is installed and a first project created from the Qt calculator example. After running the application in the Qt Simulator, Lucian adapts the application to a mobile device by adjusting the layout and screen use. The optimised application is then run on a Nokia N8.
Mobile developers are required to adapt to different software developing techniques while switching from one development platform to another. Porting Guides bring together the essential references for porting mobile applications of various flavours to the Symbian S60 platform. From the architectural changes to the common programming errors, these guides address all difficulties that a developer would face while porting mobile applications to S60 platform.
This week's featured porting guide, Porting Android (Java) applications to Java ME on S60 5th Edition, is contributed by several experts in the Forum Nokia developer community.
As the APIs used to develop Java applications for Android differ from the standard APIs in Java ME, the developer needs to rewrite the application in order for it to run on the S60 platform. This is necessary also because Android has a custom Java virtual machine that uses a different format of bytecodes.
This article presents Android's structure based on its main components and provides a summary of how to develop Android applications. Also, there are guidelines for porting existing Android applications to S60 5th Edition.
Read the article and port your applications to S60 5th Edition devices.
